Pro Tools with MAC OS X Mavericks 10.9 Update 1/17/2014:

Pro Tools with MAC OS X Mavericks 10.9

Pro Tools 11.1.1

Good news! Avid have released an update for Pro Tools 11 that supports Windows 7, 8 and Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9. Apple is coming close to releasing quite a few major updates to Mavericks with 10.9.2. Pro Tools 11.1.1 is a full installer and there are still known issues for those of you who are running the latest version of Pro Tools 10 (10.3.8) and Pro Tools 11.1.1. We have a Mac Pro Early 2009 with the latest version of Pro Tools 10, 11 and Mavericks and it is common to see PT crash unexpectedly. Co-installing Pro Tools 11 with Pro Tools 10.3.6 or higher has known reliability issues. Anything below 10.3.6 and 11.1.1 is fine.

Avid have stated that users should not update Mac OS X Mavericks while running Pro Tools 10.3.7 or 11.02. We are currently testing Pro Tools 10.3.7 and Pro Tools 11.02 on the brand new operating system to see how it really handles. There have been numerous rumors all over the internet but we will be testing it during the next two days and keep you posted on how it goes. If you have any specific questions or concerns, comment below and we will try to give you the answers you’re looking for.

Update 10/23/2013:

Pro Tools 10.3.7 and Pro Tools 11 have succesfully launched in Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9 with no errors. We were able to run a few different sessions that had multiple plug-ins as well and still no errors or lag. This does not guarantee an error free experience for all users. Every computer is different and the smallest differences can add up to be a lot of errors! We do not recommend an upgrade if you are in the middle of an important project.

Avid will likely roll out an update for Pro Tools 11 and 10 soon!

Check back with our Pro Tools page or the Avid support page to get updates!

Update 10/24/2013:

We have started to experience a repeated 6101 error in Pro Tools 10.3.7 after over an hour of editing (see image below). After a reboot, the error seems to have gone away for now.

Update from Avid 10/23/2013:

Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) support for Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius
With the announcement of Apple’s Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks operating system there are known issues with Media Composer 7 and earlier, Pro Tools 11 and earlier and Sibelius 7 and earlier.  Avid will announce support for Mac OS X 10.9 with future releases of Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius. It is not recommended to use Media Composer, Pro Tools or Sibelius with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) as they are not supported at this time.See below for known issues.

Pro Tools:
The uninstaller for Pro Tools 10.3.7 and earlier will not work on Mac OS X 10.9.   For this reason Avid does not recommend using Pro Tools 10.3.7 or earlier with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  PTSW-185438.

Increased -6101 errors with Pro Tools 11.0.2 and earlier using Built-In sound output on Mac OS X 10.9.  Pro Tools 11.0.x may encounter AAE error 6101 and Pro Tools 10.3.7 and earlier may encounter DAE error 6101 when using the built in sound output on the Mac with OS X 10.9.  This occurs with high frequency at HW Buffer sizes: 32, 64 and 128.  It occurs with lower frequency at HW Buffer sizes: 256, 512 and 1024.  This occurs with Error Suppression enable and disabled in the Playback Engine.   The error message is, “A CPU overload error occurred.”  PTSW-186179.

The Pro Tools HD driver and Nitris DX and Mojo DX driver un-installers won’t work on Mac OS X 10.9.  It is not possible to un-install the Pro Tools HD drivers, Nitris DX drivers or Mojo DX drivers on Mac OS X 10.9.  An update to these drivers will be provided that will be “signed” for installation and will allow the drivers to be un-installed.  PTSW-187157.

Nitris DX and Mojo DX drivers are not “signed” for Mac OS X 10.9. After rebooting the computer with a DX peripheral attached, an alert dialog is seen informing that the Kernel extension is not from an identified developer.  After dismissing the dialog the DX peripheral should be able to function.  UME-924.

Inability to use Venue Link with S3L and AVB with Mac OS X 10.9.  Selecting Avid AVB64 will result in error, “There are currently no interfaces in I/O Setup known to be connected to VENUE”.  There are no work arounds to this issue.  Sessions will not be created with Avid AVB64 as the peripheral.  PTSW-185903.

Avid AVB device appears multiple times in the Network Device selection on Mac OS X 10.  Within the Mac’s Audio MIDI Setup’s Network Device window the following Avid AVB devices are listed when an SL3 system is present: “Avid AVB64″, “AVB64″, “Stage16″ and “S3Mix”.  Only the “Avid AVB64″ should be selectable.  The “AVB64″ refers to the “E3Engine64″.  PTSW-186310.

The Eleven Rack, 003, Digi 002, Mbox (3rd Gen), Fast Track models and Mobile Pre driver un-installers won’t work on Mac OS X 10.9.  It is not possible to un-install the drivers for the following: Eleven Rack, 003 Console, 003 Rack, Digi 002 Console, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox 3 Pro, Mbox 3, Mbox 3 Mini, Fast Track C600 & C400, Fast Track Ultra 8R & Ultra, Fast Track Pro & MKII and Mobile Pre MKII.

Sibelius:
Font Substitution in dialog boxes appear using Mac OS X 10.9.  The system font used by Sibelius has been changed in Mac OS X 10.9 such that the text in dialogs is not displayed correctly.  Sib-439.

Unable to use Sibelius as a ReWire device with Mac OS X 10.9.  Although it may be possible to start Sibelius as a ReWire device in Pro Tools and other applications, Sibelius is unable to send the audio to the ReWire host.  Sib-522.

Media Composer:
Not supported at this time.  Avid does not recommend using Media Composer with Mac OS X 10.9 at this time as there are known issues.  We will announce support for Mac OS X 10.9 as part of an upcoming maintenance release.

IMPORTANT: In addition to the issues listed below, Avid has identified a critical issue with the ATTO driver that installs with OS 10.9. The drivers that are installed with OS 10.9 for the ATTO H380 and H680 are not compatible with the Avid VideoRaid SR and will corrupt the data on the storage array. Customers with Avid VideoRaid SRs and/or the ATTO H380 or H680 should not upgrade to OS 10.9.

Below is a list of known issues with currently released (v7.0.2 and earlier) software running on Mac OS X 10.9. You may encounter other problems that have not been identified yet.
